Learned and diligent seers of Sultanpur felt that our district's youths may rise triumphantly above every weakness if they would be liberated from the abyss of ignorance. To impart such education, that may develop human values- discipline, patience, devotion adherence, verity, self-reliance and self-confidence, renowned Advocate Late Sri Bechu Singh & Late Sri Ram Sahai Singh with their indomitable will and co-operation of Kshatriya Educational Society laid the foundation of Rana Pratap Degree College in 1971.
Sri Ram Sahai Singh enkindled the flame of learning in Sultanpur as the first president/chairman of the college and Sri Narsingh Pal as the founding manager of the College and consequently made the light of knowledge spread in the remote countryside of Sultanpur and its neighbouring districts. Presently the college is celebrating its 52nd anniversary, under the prudent guidance of Advocate Shri Sanjay Singh as President/Chairman and Shri Surendra Nath Singh as Manager.
Rana Pratap Post Graduate College is situated at the heart of Sultanpur city. River Gomati flows on its northern side. It is telling the tale of an incessant stream of learning. PWD Guest House is in the vicinity of our college. Railway Station and Bus stop are also not farther from here. It is neither near nor far from the sound and fury of the urban area. The Tranquil and the college’s verdant atmosphere fetches up Stephen Leacock's ambition for a quiet college. Learning and not the booming is the identity of our college.
Affiliated to Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University, Ayodhya, in this college under the Faculty of Arts, Hindi, Sanskrit, English, Urdu, Ancient History, Political Science, Economics, Geography, Sociology, Defence Studies, Psychology and Education, under the Faculty of Science, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Botany and Zoology, under the Faculty of Commerce B.Com. courses and under Education faculty B.Ed. courses are being conducted at the graduate level.  Hindi, Sanskrit, Geography, Sociology, Ancient History and Political Science subjects’ classes are conducted at the Post Graduate level.
In order to fulfil the growing aspirations of the youth towards employment-oriented education, CCC and BCC courses are being conducted in the college from the year 2016-17 under DLC Digital Literacy Course (DLC) by NIELET/DOEACC. Various courses are also offered in the study center affiliated to Uttar Pradesh Rajarshi Tandon Open University, Prayagraj established in 2013.

Three units of the National Service Scheme (NSS) are active here. National Cadet Corps (NCC) has come to the college from the year 2022-23.  O Level course is also being conducted under the computer training programme. According to the provisions of the National Education Policy (NEP 2020), various vocational courses established under the Skill Development Center (SDC) such as Computer Courses, Tailoring and Embroidery Training, Beautician, Tour and Tourism Management, Banking & Finance, Organic Farming, Refrigerator Maintenance, Computer Accountancy, Personality Development, etc. many courses are being conducted. Due to the Kovid-19 pandemic that occurred in the past years, the college, turning the disaster into an opportunity, conducted online classes through the virtual medium for the students through Zoom and Google Meet. With this new study culture, the uniformity of teaching was maintained among the students. Students will continue to get the benefit of the new culture of education in the coming sessions also.
